Hibiscus Rosa Spritz

I don't know about you, but sometimes it feels like the only option for a cocktail is to go out and find the nearest bar.

But then we think of all those times we've been disappointed by subpar cocktails that are made with cheap or very basic ingredients; Wouldn't it be great if there were a way to make drinks at home that rivaled what was served at your favorite bar?

Pedro Belandria, founder of The Bartrend, a popular mobile bartending and cocktail catering company from Connecticut, crafted a cocktail for us that taste's like its straight out of a luxury cocktail bar (but spoiler alert, you can make it right in the comfort of your own home).

Enter the Hibiscus Rose Spritz:

The Hibiscus-Rose Spritz is a light & refreshing cocktail made with Cylinder, fresh lemon juice, hibiscus-infused simple syrup, and sparkling rosé (because who doesn't like bubbles?). Here are the ingredients and method to making this cocktail right at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1.5oz Cylinder vodka

  • 1 oz hibiscus simple syrup* (directions below)

  • .5 oz simple syrup

  • .75 oz fresh lemon juice

  • Sparkling rosé

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients (except for the bubbly) in a cocktail shaker with ice.

  2. Shake vigorously and strain into a wine glass over ice.

  3. Top with sparkling rosé and garnish with a slice of dragonfruit.

The hibiscus syrup is perhaps the most complicated part of this recipe, if you could even call it complicated. To make this syrup, all you have to do is heat 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of hibiscus flowers until boiling. Bring to a simmer until sugars dissolve and the flowers are soft. Let cool and strain into a mason jar to use in the Hibiscus Rosa (or for a hibiscus soda if you have club soda on hand!)

All you need to feel like a mixologist is a quality spirit, the right tools, and a few fresh ingredients. If you’re looking for something easy enough that even novice bartenders can handle, the Hibiscus Rosa is the right cocktail for you.

Cheers,

Stelios
